SACO Projects

Created: 12 March 2024
Latest update: 7 April 2025

Until further notice, all SACO Project work has been paused. Please check this space for updates.

The SACO Community engages in project work to create or revise headings in Library of Congress vocabularies. Typically, this work is driven by SACO Funnels, though any SACO institution or member is welcome to initiate a project. In order to bring more consistency and visibility to these projects, the Policy, Training, and Cooperative Programs Division (PTCP) is introducing a project management process.

PTCP defines a project as a set of 20 or more proposals (new, change, or cancellations) on a single theme, made at a single time. If you start researching a problem in an LC vocabulary and suspect that it will take at least 20 proposals to address the issue, you have a project.

In order to better manage project work, PTCP will require all project teams to complete a project plan. This step should be completed prior to doing any in-depth research and prior to creating any proposals in ClassWeb Plus. Having a project plan will help the project team clearly describe the existing problem; communicate the value of their proposed solution; and advertise their work to other SACO members (who may be interested in joining the project). Project plans will also assist PTCP in delegating time and labor to project processing.
