An Introduction to a Non-Contact Method of Recovering Data from Obsolete Magnetic Media Formats

Brian Walker
Manager, Applied Pictures
Portland, Oregon

June 7 , 2010

About the Lecture:

Applied Pictures of Portland, Oregon, intends to develop an innovative system to read the information from magnetic media without making physical contact with the original tape. The hope is that such a system would not be specific to any single current format, and thus may be usable well into the future. Brian Walker, one of the principals of the group, discussed the process Applied Pictures is using to achieve this result and their plans for future development.

About the Speaker:

Brian Walker currently serves as the Manager for the sales, integration and service divisions of a Broadcast and Professional Video Reseller in the Portland, Oregon area. He has designed and built broadcast facilities and consults with manufacturers for product improvement. Walker designs for and advises customers regarding equipment decisions, plant designs and wiring schematics. He is a member of the Society of Broadcast Engineers and holds a Bachelor of Science Degree in Broadcast Media Communications from Oregon State University.
