Preservation Services Division

The Preservation Services Division (PSD) is responsible for services that prepare and process materials for preservation and for the management information systems required to enact preservation services at scale. The Division provides after-market binding for library materials, quality control of the ILS component and of material re-shelving component, provides business support services for contracted preservation services; and development and maintenance of the management information systems and technologies required for effective operations of preservation activities across all Preservation Divisions. There are two sections in the division; the Business Operations Services Section (BOSS) and the Processing And Preparation Section (PPS).

Business Operations Services Section

BOSS delivers critical services for preservation programs across the Preservation Directorate. It serves as the organizational center for technical and specialist staff, who support the Directorate’s preservation services contracts and management information systems within PSD and across the Directorate. BOSS is comprised of three main activity centers:

  • Automation and management information systems
  • Contract management and business process support
  • microfilm master negative reel collection services

Preparations and Processing Section

Preparations and Processing Section (PPS) is responsible for providing binding preparation for the Library's General Collections and Copyright deposits and preparing collections related to binding contract services. Binding preparation includes binding services for: newly cataloged, unbound monographs; retrospective collections; and for unbound serial issues cumulated and processed by custodial divisions. PPS is focusing on the following activities:

  • Processing preparing and assessing collection items for commercial binding.
  • Conducting quality assurance, which is a critical component of all of PSD’s programs, after binding is complete.
  • Inventorying collection items in the ILS.
