Library Specialist Awarded Austrian Honor

Dr. Billington, Margrit B. Krewson, and Helmut Turk

On Nov. 3, at the residence of Austrian Ambassador Helmut Türk (right), Margrit B. Krewson (center), the Library's German/Dutch area specialist, was awarded the Austrian Cross of Honor for Science and Art, First Class. This award is given upon the recommendation of the Minister for Science and Research and must be signed by the president of Austria. Dr. Billington (left) attended the ceremony.

The award recognized Mrs. Krewson's services to Austria at the Library. In the past 17 years she has strengthened the Austrian collections, making the Library's German-language collections among the best in the world. During the past two years Mrs. Krewson has arranged and supported the Vienna Lectures that provide insight and understanding of Austria's history and role in central Europe. The ambassador thanked Mrs. Krewson for her dedication to serving Austrian interests at the Library.
