Additions to the National Film and Recording Registries

Additions to the National Film Registry

In December 2004 the Librarian of Congress announced the addition of the 25 films listed below to the National Film Registry, bringing the total to 400. Under the terms of the National Film Preservation Act, the Librarian of Congress is responsible for annually selecting motion pictures that are "culturally, historically or aesthetically" significant.

Additions to the National Recording Registry*

The Librarian of Congress announced the second annual selection of 50 sound recordings to the National Recording Registry in March 2004. Under the terms of the National Recording Preservation Act of 2000, the Librarian is responsible for annually selecting recordings that are "culturally, historically, or aesthetically significant."
