String Quartet no. 2, op. 15

For more than 80 years, the Library of Congress has celebrated the extraordinary craftsmanship of Antonio Stradivari with an annual concert highlighting our “Strads,” the gift of Gertrude Clarke Whittall. These glorious instruments have been used in Library concerts by a long roster of memorable players, documented in our extensive concert recording archives. Sample just a tantalizing few of these, from rare wartime recordings of the Budapest and Hungarian Quartets to excerpts of stunning recent concerts by some of the world’s finest quartets such as the Turtle Island String Quartet and the Dover String Quartet.

This concert is part of our (Re)Hearing Beethoven Festival. Be sure to check out the full range of events!
