Falmouth, Maine, part of which town was incorporated under the name
of Portland in 1786. In Falmouth, The Cumberland gazette
was a continuation of The Falmouth gazette and weekly advertiser.
The first issue with the Portland imprint was that of July 20, 1786.
Continued by The Eastern Herald, Jan. 2, 1792.
