Notice: Out of an abundance of caution, all Library of Congress research centers will be closed to the public (including researchers and others with reader identification cards) until further notice, to reduce the risk of transmitting COVID-19 coronavirus. All Library-sponsored public programs are also postponed or cancelled through May 11. Online resources and reference services, such as Ask a Librarian, will continue to be available during this time. For more information, see: www.loc.gov/coronavirus.

General Information: For the most efficient reader services, please use the Asian Division's Ask-A-Librarian form to make your request for materials at least two business days before you get to the Asian Reading Room.

Ask a Librarian
Question Mark IconWant to send the reference staff a question about the Library's Asian Collections.

The Asian Reading Room provides public access to more than 4 million items in over 130 Asian languages, such as Chinese, Japanese, Korean, Tibetan, Hindi, Thai, and many others. In the reading room, researchers can use the Asian Divisionís collections of printed materials, microform, and databases and confer with reference librarians to answer research questions about the countries of East, South, and Southeast Asia.

Researchers interested in maps of Asian countries should contact the Geography and Map Reading Room; those interested in Western language newspapers from Asia should contact the Newspaper and Current Periodical Reading Room; and those interested in law should contact the Law Library.
