PrePub Book Link CIP Publisher User Guide

This user guide provides step-by-step instructions on the use of PrePub Book Link.

Core Required Materials

Library of Congress staff create the CIP data based on the book, not the application. The application must be accompanied by the full text or the core required materials.

More about core required materials

Galley File Information

The CIP Program requires that a single galley file in PDF format be attached to the CIP Request in PrePub Book Link.

Is your forthcoming title a reprint edition? If so, please submit a new CIP Request in PrePub Book Link with the core required materials. There is a question in the CIP Request asking if the forthcoming book is a reprint of a previously published work. If the user clicks yes, the user is prompted to enter the title of the original edition. If you know the LCCN and/or ISBN of the original work, please include this in the Additional Comments in the CIP Request form.

Is your forthcoming title a multivolume set or more than one physical volume?

Publisher-Provided Summaries

The Library of Congress has developed guidelines for publishers who want the summaries they prepare to appear in the MARC bibliographic record and the CIP Data as submitted. The CIP Program will accept publisher-supplied summaries if the summaries comply with the CIP Guidelines for Summaries.

Children’s and Young Adults’ Cataloging Program Summaries

One of the key elements of the Children’s and Young Adults’ Cataloging Program (CYAC) is the providing of a brief, non-critical, one-sentence annotation that describes the content of the work being cataloged without making any judgmental statements.
