Full name PDF/R-1, encrypted. Based on PDF 2.0 as defined in ISO 32000-2. ISO 23504-1: Document management applications -- Raster image transport and storage -- Part 1: Use of ISO 32000.
Description

A variant of PDF/R-1 designed for storing and transmitting scanned page image data that must be encrypted. It is based on ISO 32000-2 (PDF 2.0) in order to take advantage of more secure encryption than supported in ISO 32000-1. All restrictions on unencrypted PDF/R-1 files apply except that the Header must be %PDF-2.0 and the Crypt filter is allowed.

The encryption employed must use the "Standard security handler" as described in subclause 7.6.4 of ISO 32000-2:2020. The only encryption algorithm supported is the AES algorithm with a key length of 256.

Production phase See PDF/R-1.

    Documentation

The specification for encrypted PDF/R-1 documents is in the same document as the specification for unencrypted PDF/R-1 documents. See specification of PDF/R-1 as submitted for international standardization to the ISO/TC 171/SC 2. The ISO catalog record for PDF/R is https://www.iso.org/standard/75804.html. See also PDF/R-1.

Technical protection considerations The PDF/R-1 specification indicates that the variant based on ISO 32000-2 (PDF 2.0) should only be used for encrypted documents.
