Selected Teaching Aids: Astronomy for Schools

The Science and Technology Division recently published a revised enlarged version of a select bibliography on astronomy for secondary students and teachers.

Astronomy for Schools is part of a recently initiated Science and Technology series.

"It is part of our science outreach program initiated to combat the crisis in U.S. science education," said Ron Wilkinson, senior science specialist.

The series features individual sciences such as biology and astronomy. The publications suggest resources with an emphasis on hands-on activities.

The astronomy publication is designed to create a new awareness of the universe. Sources range from instructive visual activities to the construction of telescopes. The history and mythology of astronomy are included as incentives, as are corollary subjects in meteorology.

To order the free publications, write the Science and Technology Division, Library of Congress, Washington, DC 20540-5580.
