- This dataset is an export of transcriptions for 3,097 images from the William A. Gladstone Afro-American Military Collection created by volunteers participating in the Library of Congress crowdsourcing program By the People (https://crowd.loc.gov) campaign Brothers in Arms: The Gladstone Afro-American Military Collection. It contains text created by volunteers through a transcription and review process, volunteer-created tags, digital collections metadata, and metadata representing the arrangement of the items in the By the People platform, Concordia.
- The dataset includes transcriptions and data generated from the pages in the By the People campaign Brothers in Arms: The Gladstone Afro-American Military Collection (https://crowd.loc.gov/campaigns/gladstone/). The campaign consisted of all then-available online images of digitized content from the William A. Gladstone Afro-American Military Collection (http://hdl.loc.gov/loc.mss/collmss.ms000062) transcribed in their entirety. The collection documents African Americans in military service, especially the United States Corps d'Afrique and the United States Colored Troops. It spans the years 1773 to 1987, with the bulk of the material dating from the Civil War period, 1861-1865. The collection consists of correspondence, pay vouchers, orders, muster rolls, enlistment and discharge papers, receipts, contracts, affidavits, tax records, and other miscellaneous military documents and printed matter. This .CSV is the direct export of the Brothers in Arms: The Gladstone Afro-American Military Collection campaign.
