About this Item

Title
The Battle Deaths Dataset.
Summary
The Battle Deaths Dataset was compiled by Bethany Lacina and Nils Petter Gleditsch. The data are packaged in different ways in this work: as 1 Excel file for use with UCDP/PRIO Armed Conflicts Dataset 1946-2005 (Gleditsch et al., 2002; Harbom and Wallensteen, 2005); as 9 Excel files for use with the Correlates of War (COW) data on wars 1900-1997 (Sarkees, 2000); as 2 Excel files for use with data on civil wars 1945-1999 compiled by Fearon and Laitin (2001); and as 1 excel file with yearly total battle deaths. A codebook and documentation on coding decisions for the different packages of the data are also included as PDFs. While the website states that there is a PDF file with version history and errata, that PDF is missing.
