Library of Congress Institutional Awareness
Key Behaviors:
- Understand how their own work responsibilities support the Library’s mission to serve Congress and the public
- Be able to identify how their work responsibilities support one or more of the major goals of the Library’s current Strategic Plan
- Be able to identify how their work responsibilities support the major goals of their Service Unit’s current Strategic Plan
- Demonstrate a working knowledge of the Library’s organizational structure, primary functions, collections, key services and programs, and history
- Understand the main purposes and functions of each Service Unit of the Library
- Understand how the Service Units work to support other Service Units in accomplishing their missions
- Respect the Library’s collections and protect collections materials from damage, loss or theft
- Comply with all Library regulations and applicable laws, regulations, and policies governing Federal employment
- Understand the responsibilities inherent in being a U.S. government employee serving the public
- Use good judgment and follow the proper procedures for maintaining physical safety and security in the Library environment
