“La Adelita” and the Emergence of the Revolutionary Adelita
In the heights of a steep mountain range,
A regiment was camped
And a young woman bravely followed them,
Madly in love with the sergeant,
Popular among the troops was Adelita,
The woman that the sergeant loved,
And in addition to being brave, she was pretty,
So even the Colonel respected her.
And it was heard, that he who loved her said:
And if Adelita would like to be my girlfriend,
And if Adelita would be my wife,
I would buy her a dress of silk,
To take to the barrack’s dance.
And if Adelita were to leave with another man,
I would follow her by land and sea,
If by sea, in a war ship,
If by land, in a military train.
