Bartolomé de las Casas was an early Spanish historian and Dominican missionary. His writings documented indigenous life in the Americas at the time of contact and attempted to persuade the Spanish Empire that indigenous peoples deserved humane treatment. John Hessler, curator of the Jay I. Kislak Collection, will discuss Las Casas and his works, including items on display in Exploring the Early Americas.
