Encoded Archival Description (EAD) is an XML .standard for encoding archival finding aids, maintained by the Technical Subcommittee for Encoded Archival Standards of the Society of American Archivists, in partnership with the Library of Congress.

EAD 2002 is deprecated and no longer supported by the Technical Subcommittee on Encoded Archival Standards. The latest status is from fall 2021. As of 2021, this version of the standard is still used in the archival community and will hence remain available at this location and on GitHub (https://github.com/SAA-SDT/EAD2002).
