Flux is known for creating projects of unique vision that defy aesthetic categorization. Writing in ┬áThe New York Times, the criticSteve Smith calls the quartet “an intrepid ensemble devoted to illuminating the pricklier corners of the contemporary repertory.” This concert features a few remarkable, sometimes provocative works from several of those corners, music to invigorate and intrigue. Pianist Cory Smythe will join violinist Tom Chiu in a Library commission by Muhal Richard Abrams, co-founder of the Association for the Advancement of Creative Musicians (AACM), and another highlight is the third quartet of iconoclast and visionary Conlon Nancarrow.
