DAY 3 OCTOBER 14, 1994

Participants will review the current state of cataloging electronic texts and identify areas needing further clarification and development. They will recommend possible approaches for training and extension of expertise. Other potential outcomes are proposals for additional research on how librarians and the public use digital texts, with emphasis on how findings should influence description and access.

9:00 - 10:00am Panel discussion with Edward Gaynor, Susan Hockey, Lynn Marko, Joan Swanekamp, Diane Vizine-Goetz. Sarah Thomas, moderator.

10:00 - 1:00pm Development of Action Plan:

1) Determine extensions needed for policy and guidelines.

2) Devise pilot project for collaboration.

3) Plan to network with producers of electronic texts, public services librarians, and catalogers to promote awareness of guidelines and cooperation.

4) Encourage research on how electronic texts are used and the importance of particular access points.

5) Assess and recommend need for training.
