BIBFRAME as the core. Most of our BF implementations are hybrid – MARC and BIBFRAME. It is difficult to move all subsystems from MARC to
BIBFRAME thus many are still heavily MARC. However, several libraries led by Stanford are advancing a project, Blue Core, that uses BIBFRAME as its center.
In the ideal Blue Core world, a BIBFRAME database serves as the catalog of multiple institutions. Can that be achieved? How close
can we come to non-duplication of records across institutions? Would it save on bibliographic control? These questions are being explored in Blue Core.
The assessment period will produce a prototype Minimum Viable Product (MVP). Shared here (for the first time!) are the development plans for the Blue Core MVP.
Kevin Ford of the Library of Congress also gave a brief update on assigning script and language tags in BIBFRAME.
