MONDAY, JUNE 27, 2022, 1:00 - 2:00 pm (ET) / 10:00 - 11:00 am (PT)
This event was held during the ALA Annual Conference.
With the target date for the Library of Congress’s (LC) BIBFRAME 100 coming this fall, when most of LC’s cataloging staff will create descriptions in LC’s BIBFRAME system with MARC records created via conversion to MARC, we want to use this update forum to highlight some of the developments that could affect users of LC data. Beacher Wiggins will lead off with the status and expectations of the LC Acquisitions and Bibliographic Access Directorate. LC specialists will dip into the non-Latin arena discussing more scripts, how much transliteration, transliteration table reviews, non-Latin script input in Marva (BIBFRAME editor), and a sharable transliteration utility. LC will report on sharing BIBFRAME data, including works, instances, hubs, names, subjects, and many standard lists, through new distribution software. The session will close with a report from OCLC on their initial thoughts on using LC’s BIBFRAME records and/or MARC records created from BIBFRAME data.
