CLASSIFICATION

BP76.5

In accordance with the decision on the subject proposal for Muḥammad, Prophet, -632—Genealogy (see below), this proposal is not approved.

 BP77.3

In accordance with the decision on the subject proposal for Muḥammad, Prophet, -632—Youth (see below), this proposal is not approved.

 DG70.L316

This topic is already classed at DG70.C86. The proposal is not necessary.

 GF22.5

The topic is covered by BF353, Environmental psychology. The proposal is not necessary.

 HD9999.D57-.D574

The work being cataloged should be classed at K3264.O55. The proposal is not necessary.

 HS2566.5

The work being cataloged should be classed at HD9019.M38. The proposal is not necessary.

 LB2331.3

Works on plagiarism are classed at PN167. The proposal is not approved.

 N7365.65.E26

A number for ecology as a subject of art is already established at N8217.E28. The note at the top of the hierarchy for N8217-8266 says, "Class here general works on the topics as well as works on the topics in a particular region, country, etc." The work being cataloged should be classed at N8217.E28, and this proposal is not necessary.

 [TX809.M2] and TX809.P66

This topic is already classed in TX814.5.P66. The proposals are not necessary.

 Z6605.S615 ; [Z6605.S6422] ; Z6605.S675

These proposals sought to change the caption for the Ukrainian. Ruthenian class number. They proposed a separate number for Carpatho-Rusyn and deleted any reference to Ruthenian. However, Ethnologue seems to indicate that Ruthenian may be a language in its own right (https://www.ethnologue.com/language/rsk). The cataloger may research this further, and resubmit the proposals.

SUBJECT HEADINGS

Asian American choreographers

The proposal must indicate clearly the relationship between the work being cataloged and the heading being proposed. The heading also needs to have a broader term. The proposal may be resubmitted.

 Azul (Argentina : Military base)--Siege, 1974

Only the Spanish-language title of the work being cataloged was provided. The proposal may be resubmitted with information in English that explains the relationship of the work being cataloged to the heading being proposed.

 Backyard chickens

There is no clear difference between the concepts of Backyard chickens and Chickens as pets. Because there is already an established pattern of [Animal] as pets, Chickens as pets will be approved, and Backyard chickens will be added as a variant term on that record. This proposal is not approved.

 Bamboo musical instruments

This heading was proposed in order to serve as a broader term on future proposals for specific bamboo instruments. Musical instruments are usually established according to the way they make sound or the way they are played. Because any number of instruments and types of instruments can be made from bamboo, this proposal is not considered useful. Proposals for individually named bamboo instruments will be welcomed, but this proposal is not approved.

 Caserío Silverio Site (Spain)

The geographic qualifier needs more supporting evidence in the 670 citations. Where exactly is the site? Is it within a city? The heading should also have a BT of Antiquities, Roman--Spain. The proposal may be resubmitted.

 Chicago "L" (Chicago, Ill.)

This concept should be treated in the same way that railroads are. According to SHM H 1970, it should be established in the Name Authority File. This proposal is not approved.

 Chinese--Foreign countries and Chinese diaspora

These headings will be part of an upcoming project. The proposals are withdrawn from this list and are retained for future work.

 Church and state--Belaruskai͡i͡ a pravaslaŭnai͡i͡ a tsarkva

Proposals must explain the relationship between the work being cataloged and the proposed heading, but this proposal does not explain the relevance of the subdivision --Belaruskai͡a pravaslaŭnai͡a tsarkva. The proposal may be resubmitted.

College students' writings, Hispanic American (Spanish)

It is not clear whether the (college-age) authors of the work being cataloged are Hispanic American. The proposal may be resubmitted with additional supporting evidence.

 Communism and Christianity--Belaruskai͡i͡ a pravaslaŭnai͡i͡ a tsarkva

Proposals must explain the relationship between the work being cataloged and the proposed heading, but this proposal does not explain the relevance of the subdivision --Belaruskai͡i͡ a pravaslaŭnai͡i͡ a tsarkva. The proposal may be resubmitted.

 Coolidge family

The proposal contained no information from the work being cataloged about the location and nationality of the family. This requirement was added to the instruction sheet because, if no location information is included, it is impossible to determine if the name was altered due to emigration (see H 1631 sec. 3.a). The proposal may be resubmitted.

 Donets Basin (Ukraine and Russia)

Donets Basin is still the name on GNS and refers to the geological feature. Donbas is the name used for the historic region in Ukraine that is associated with Donets but is also conceptually different. See Encyclopedia of Ukraine https://esu.com.ua/search_articles.php?id=20769 and https://esu.com.ua/search_articles.php?id=20846. The proposal to change Donets Basin to Donbas is not approved.

 Games in language learning

This list contained proposals for Games in language education and Games in language learning. LCSH does not need both headings, so Games in language education is approved and Games in language learning is not approved.

 Haughey family

The work cited indicates that Haffey is an American variant of Haughey. According to SHM H 1631, there should be one proposal for Haughey, with the variant Houghey and a separate proposal for Haffey. The two proposals should be related via 500 RTs. This proposal may be resubmitted with the requested changes.

 Heroines in comics

In LCSH, Heroines means the principal female characters of literary works. The citation to the work being cataloged indicates that the work is about women superheroes, so the subject heading Women superheroes in comics should be used. This proposal is not approved.

 Héta language

No citation was provided for a work being cataloged, and the proposal did not demonstrate the use of the term Héta. Why was that term chosen for the heading, rather than the other names listed? The cataloger should also consult Ethnologue for additional variants. The proposal may be resubmitted.

 Human rights and technology

The proposal provided no English in the work being cataloged citation, and for an "and" heading, the proposal should show there is reciprocal influence between the topics. The proposal may be resubmitted.

 Human settlements

Human settlements will be used as a broader term for Built environment. This proposal to make it a narrower term of Built environment is not approved.

 Japanese fiction--Heisei period, 1989-

There are four other proposals in the system that close the date of the Heisei period (Japan—History—Heisei period, 1989-2019 ; Japanese literature—Heisei period, 1989-2019 ; Japanese poetry—Heisei period, 1989-2019 ; Authors, Japanese—Heisei period, 1989-2019). They should have been submitted for scheduling all together. Some of these proposals do not cite any work being cataloged (work cat.), and the ones that do have a work cat. citation do not explain the relation between the work and the heading change being proposed. These five proposals may be resubmitted with additional information in all of the work cat. citations justifying the update to the headings.

 Jewish women in comics

The majority of the citations in the proposal do not seem to be talking about the representation of Jewish women in comics, but rather about the participation of Jewish women in the comics industry. The proposal may be resubmitted with information that clarifies the content of the work or adjusts the proposed heading to be more accurate.

 Lac La Croix indigenous pony

The form of heading being proposed does not appear in any of the citations. Various horse web sites still refer to this as an "Indian" pony (see https://www.breedhorse.com/lac-la-croix-indian-pony/ and https://horsebreedslist.com/lac-la-croix-indian-pony/), while the Lac La Croix First Nation refers to this as the "Lac La Croix pony", which is probably sufficiently distinct.

The subject proposal also included a class number, but no proposal for the class number itself was submitted. Also, the class number given is for horses. This topic should probably be classed with ponies (SF315.2.A-Z). The proposal may be resubmitted with corrections and with an accompanying classification proposal.

 Landscapes

The 670 citations describe landscapes as "the landforms of a region in the aggregate," thus the broader term Built environment is not appropriate here. The proposal is not approved.

 Mooi language

This proposal duplicated another proposal for this language, under the heading Mekwei language. The proposal for Mooi language is withdrawn, and the other proposal will be considered on list 2301.

 Muḥammad, Prophet, -632--Biography--Early life

The subdivision --Early life is a UF reference to the free-floating subdivision --Childhood and youth. The cataloger should use the string Muḥammad, Prophet, -632--Childhood and youth. The proposal was not approved.

 Muḥammad, Prophet, -632—Childhood

The free floating subdivision --Childhood and youth should be used instead. The proposal was not necessary.

 Muḥammad, Prophet, -632—Family

The subdivision --Family is free-floating under names of persons. The proposal was not necessary.

 Muḥammad, Prophet, -632—Genealogy

The subdivision --Genealogy is a UF reference to the free-floating subdivision --Family. The proposal is not approved.

 Muḥammad, Prophet, -632—Prophecies

The subdivision --Prophecies is free-floating under names of persons. The proposal is not necessary.

 Muḥammad, Prophet, -632—Travel

The subdivision --Travel is free-floating under names of persons. The proposal is not necessary.

 Muḥammad, Prophet, -632—Youth

The free floating subdivision --Childhood and youth should be used instead. The proposal is not necessary.

 Myth in comics

The proposal needs to distinguish between myth and mythology. They mean different things in LCSH, and it is not clear which one this heading is supposed to indicate. The proposal may be resubmitted.

 Mythology, Udmurt

The proposal must indicate clearly the relationship between the work being cataloged and the heading being proposed, including the specific relevance of Udmurt. The proposal may be resubmitted.

 Nineteen eighteen, A.D

This heading is not appropriate for the work being cataloged. The proposal does not follow the instructions in sec. 2.c. of SHM H 620: "General headings for centuries, years, and other periods. ... Assign these headings only to general works on the time period not limited to specific topics." The citation for the work being cataloged indicates that the work is limited to the topic of World War I. It should be assigned the heading for that event: World War, 1914-1918. The proposal is not necessary.

Orden Pocheta and Orden "Znak Pocheta"

The cataloger should consider combining the two terms into one record (Orden Pocheta, UF Oden "Znak Pocheta"). The proposal(s) should also provide more evidence for the geographic subdivisions in the BTs. The proposal(s) may be resubmitted.

 P'yŏnghwa ŭi Sonyŏsang (Seoul, Korea)

This proposal sought to change a heading for a specific statue in Seoul, to a heading that would cover all statues of comfort women. There is no need for this change. For these statues in general, the heading Comfort women in art may be used. This proposal is not approved.

 Race awareness in comics

The citation to the work being cataloged does not demonstrate the need for the heading. Race in comics should be used to catalog this work instead. This proposal is not necessary.

 Prostitutes in art

This proposal sought to add a broader term to the record for Prostitutes in art. LCSH does not give BTs to “…in art” headings. The proposal is not approved.

 Prostitution in art

This proposal sought to add a broader term to the record for Prostitution in art. LCSH does not give BTs to “…in art” headings. The proposal is not approved.

 Television programs and comic books

Proposals for "and" headings, must show there is reciprocal influence between the topics. This proposal discussed “parallel developments” in television and comic books, but parallels in development do not necessarily mean one topic influenced the other. The proposal may be resubmitted.

Temple K (Chittorgarh Fort, Chittaurgarh, India)

The cataloger should provide another resource that shows the use of "Temple K" as the current name of the building in lieu of the historic name of the building (if the name is still unknown). As it is, the work cat. and the other 670 are technically the same source (the creator is Ram Nath; the work cat is a photograph taken by Nath that was then published in the book that is referenced in the 2nd 670). The proposal may be resubmitted.

 Women heroes

This proposal was related to the proposal for Heroines in comics. Because that proposal was not approved, this one is not necessary.

GENRE FORM

 Audio interactive games

The proposal must indicate clearly the relationship between the work being cataloged and the heading being proposed. The proposal may be resubmitted.

MEDIUM OF PERFORMANCE

bell

This proposal needs to be considered in conjunction with a proposal for jingle bells, which is scheduled to list 2301. This proposal is withdrawn from list 2210.

jingles (percussion)

This proposal needs to be considered in conjunction with a proposal for jingle bells, which is scheduled to list 2301. This proposal is withdrawn from list 2210.
