CLASSIFICATION

DK651.S43

This classification number is already in use for Sengileĭ. Sarov is currently represented by the classification number DK651.S4136. The proposal may be resubmitted with the number that is in use.

F1219.1.H76

The note under F1219.1.A-Z says “Unless otherwise provided for, class individual sites with the state in which they are located.” This means that the Huapalcalco Site should class in its state. The cataloger may propose an including note to the appropriate number to highlight this site, but the proposed number was unnecessary.

[KDK201], [KDK205-205.9], KDK205.5

The work being cataloged to justify these numbers should be classed in KDK201. The proposals were unnecessary.

PA5610.K75

It is unclear why the cataloger chose to change an already established number for this author. The change was unnecessary.

PL5128.S27

The Sarawak dialect is not an established heading in LCSH. The proposal may be resubmitted with a proposal for the dialect.

J10 6.3

The work being cataloged should be under collective biography at DS916.5.A1. The proposal was unnecessary.

SUBJECT HEADINGS

Ch'ŏrwŏnsŏng (Ch'ŏrwŏn-gun, Korea)

It is unclear from the proposal if the city is extinct or not. The broader term is not justified by any of the supporting sources. The proposal may be resubmitted for consideration.

Climatic changes and war

When proposing a [ . . . ] and [ . . . ] heading, it is necessary to support the reciprocal relationship between both of the topics. See SHM H 310 for more information about creating proposals for these types of headings. The proposal may be resubmitted for consideration.

East Indian diaspora, Pakistani diaspora, South Asian diaspora, Sri Lankan diaspora, Tamil diaspora

All of the changes made to the broader terms of these headings were based on creating a new hierarchy for Asian diaspora and putting all of the appropriate headings under this higher level heading thus removing the existing broader term of Human geography. It was decided that creating a sub-hierarchy under Human geography would make these diasporas more difficult to find in LCSH. The proposals were not approved.

Electro-acoustic music, Musique concrète, Computer music

These proposals will be withdrawn and retained to be revisited in the future. There are issues in the hierarchy that complicate these proposals and must be reviewed before approval.

Haʻikū Valley (Hawaii)

SHM H 800 states “If the river is not yet established, establish a heading for the river at the same time”. The proposal may be resubmitted with an accompanying proposal for the river associated with this valley.

Horizontal hotels

While it is acknowledged that horizontal hotels are an up-and-coming concept, there is not enough warrant to support the creation of a heading at this time. Multiple sources that were consulted had more than one definition of the term, nor did the definitions show how the term differed from existing terms in the tourism industry. The heading may be resubmitted when there is more documented warrant.

Journalism and history

When proposing a [ . . . ] and [ . . . ] heading, it is necessary to support the reciprocal relationship between both of the topics. See SHM H 310 for more information about creating proposals for these types of headings. From the description of the work being cataloged, it appears that the heading History—Press coverage may be more appropriate. The proposal may be resubmitted with more evidence for consideration.

Latin America—Foreign relations, 1830-1848

SHM H 620 states that “Select a period of time that expresses a generally recognized period related to the subject or place as shown by authority research or a period of time frequently treated in works on a the subject or place”. The proposal shows no evidence of authority research, or of consultation of the LC database to find another source. It is unclear from the proposal why the span of 1830-1848 is a significant time in Latin American foreign relations. The cataloger can either use the heading Latin America—Foreign relations—19th century or resubmit the proposal with more supporting evidence.

Mystic liberalism, Mystic liberalism in comics

The meeting feels that the proposal is too narrow and specialized for a general vocabulary such as LCSH. The proposal was not approved.

San Calá, Battle of, Argentina, 1842

Other resources refer to this battle having occurred in 1841. More research is necessary to clarify the accepted date of the battle and added as a citation to the proposal. The proposal may be resubmitted.

Harvard University—Students—Uniforms, High school students—Uniforms, School children—Uniforms

The heading for School uniforms was approved, but using the term Uniforms as an exclusive free-floating subdivision only under types of students was confusing because the base term Uniforms already has instructions on how use the term as a subdivision under classes of persons. Therefore, the subdivision was not approved and all of the supporting headings used as examples were unnecessary.

GENRE/FORM TERMS

Electronica (Music), Electro-acoustic music, Musique concrète

There is a current disagreement about including Electro-acoustic music as a genre/form term because it may be more appropriately described as a medium of performance. The proposals will be withdrawn and retained for further discussion and research.

Trance music

Most of the sources refer to the state of being in a trance rather than the concept of trance music. The proposal may be resubmitted with more information about trance music.

MEDIUM OF PERFORMANCETERMS

Changes were made as indicated on the approved list.
