CLASSIFICATION
DS79.78.A-Z
The proposal attempted to add a new number for veterans of the Iraq War, with division by region or country. This area is extremely tight, and other wars place books about veterans under the Special topics area. As a result, the meeting decided to place the base proposal for veterans under the Special topics area at DS79.767.V47. This meant that the Cutter would be a topical Cutter, which means that it would fall under CSM F 350 sec. 4. This instruction sheet directs us not to build hierarchy into a topical Cutter. The proposal for division by region or country was not approved.
LB3430.5
In evaluating the related subject heading, the editorial meeting decided that the concept of Multi-tiered systems of support was not a student assistance program, but an overall instructional framework that included the intent of assisting students. A replacement proposal at LB1029.M85 was made. The proposal was not approved.
PL44.9.A476; PL44.9.S44-S443; PL44.9 S53-S533
Multiple proposals for one resource are not required. An examination of the resources related to these proposals showed that other proposals covered the needed classification numbers for the resources. These proposals were not necessary.
PN56.C547
In evaluating the related subject heading, the hierarchy indicated that this is a rhetorical device in writing. To more accurately reflect it as a technique in literary composition, a replacement proposal was made at PN224. The proposal was not approved.
PA8330.H73-.H732
The proposal attempted to establish two classification numbers for the work Historia Apollonii Regis Tyri, one for the Latin work itself and one for translations. In evaluating the patterns for this area, and the history of the work itself, it seemed more appropriate to add a note directing a cataloger to the specific literatures in P for the translated works, with a see also reference for the current related proposal, and limit this area to the editions of the original Latin text. The proposal for PA8330.H372 was not approved.
PQ7297.S44
The proposal established a literary author number for Francisco D. Segovia in Mexico. The author was born in Argentina, and there is already a book by him in the shelflist at PQ7797.S48. The proposal was not approved.
PS1784.H14
The proposal established a number for Richard Matthews Hallet. He primarily published after 1900, and this is one of the factors to consider when establishing literary author number, according to F 632.A more appropriate number for him is PS3515.A3825. The proposal was not approved.
SUBJECT HEADINGS
Brazil—History—Library resources
The proposal was created to satisfy the need for a broader term for the Colección Montenegro. See the decision for that proposal. The proposal was not necessary.
Brusi family
The Brusi family is a noble family of Spain. The headings for noble families should follow the instructions in H 1574 Dynasties, Royal Families, etc. The proposal may be resubmitted.
Coleccion Montenegro
A library collection is a named collection and is established in the name authority file, according to H 405 Establishing Certain Entities in the Name or Subject Authority File. The proposal was not necessary.
Dancers—Puerto Rico
The proposal was created in order to record a contrasting scope note. The editorial meeting decided that the scope notes were not needed. The proposal was not necessary
Diamond mines and mining—Australia—Western Australia
The proposal was created as a broader term to be used on the Argyle Diamond Mine (W.A.) proposal. The structure was not correct, as specified in H 375. The correct proposal of Diamond mines and mining—Australia had also been created and approved. The proposal was not approved.
Ethnic food
The proposal was part of a project to remove the term primitive from LCSH. In evaluating this change, the meeting considered the cancelled heading of Primitive societies—Food would be more appropriately replaced by the heading Food instead of Ethnic food. A replacement proposal was made. The proposal was not approved.
Janes family
The meeting decided that all of the related terms to other families were not needed; the existing related term is sufficient. The proposal was not approved.
Personal protective equipment
In examining this proposal, the editorial meeting realized that the existing heading of Protective clothing already included items that were not necessarily clothing. Instead of separating the concepts, the meeting decided to continue the existing structure. The heading Protective clothing was changed to Personal protective equipment, with the appropriate references and broader terms added. Related headings were also updated. The proposal was not approved
Response to intervention (Learning disabled children)
The proposal added a related term to Multi-tiered systems of support (Education). The editorial meeting decided that the related term was not appropriate, according to the requirements of H 370. The proposal was not necessary.
Wādī al-Rashīd (Mauritania)
The proposal lacked sufficient information to justify the definition of the place as a wadi, as research indicated there might be a populated place with the same name. The proposal may be resubmitted.
Wildlife smuggling
The proposal replaced the broader term Wildlife crimes with the more specific term Wildlife trafficking. However, the definition of smuggling indicates that it is about the transport of items without paying import or export duties when crossing national borders; the definition of trafficking as a crime is trade in illegal resources, which may or may not cross borders. The two are not the same, nor is one the subtopic of the other. The proposal was not approved.
GENRE/FORM TERMS
Changes were made as indicated on the approved list.
