CLASSIFICATION
BL265.A37
In accordance with the decision on Religion and agriculture (see below) this proposal was not necessary. The work should be classified in BP190.5.A39.
KD1887.C66
This proposal may be resubmitted with a resubmitted subject proposal. See below under Computer insurance for details.
LD1061.C25
Clear Creek Baptist Bible College trains students for ordained ministry, and is not a general institution of higher education. It should be classified in BV4070.A-Z. The proposal was not approved.
PN1995.9.B585; PN1995.9.N4
The meeting is in general agreement with these proposals, which seek to cancel the class number for Negroes as a special topic in motion pictures and replace it with a number for Blacks. However, there are 39 similar class numbers based on the word Negro, and those numbers should also be considered for revision. The two proposals that appeared on this list were withdrawn so that they may be republished with proposals to change the other 39 numbers. The proposals will appear on Tentative List 6, for June 2021.
PN6377.K27
Classification captions are generally based on subject or name headings, which should be established before the class proposal is made. This proposal may be resubmitted with a subject proposal for Riddles, Kankanay.
PQ7276.5.L44
This proposal may be resubmitted with a resubmitted subject proposal. See below under Legal stories, Mexican for details about the subject proposal. In addition, the number should be proposed in Table P-PZ20, since the Spanish literature of Mexico (PQ7100-7298.436) is subarranged with that table.
SUBJECT HEADINGS
Announcement
Internment camps; Concentration camps
Proposals to remove the UF Internment camps from the heading Concentration camps and establish it separately appeared on this list. Rather than approving the proposals as submitted, the heading Concentration camps was cancelled and replaced by two headings, Nazi concentration camps and Internment camps. Internment camps has a UF from Concentration camps, and Nazi concentration camps is an NT of Internment camps. Going forward, works about concentration or internment camps other than those established by the Nazis should be assigned the heading Internment camps. Alternately, separate headings for concentration camps run by other regimes (e.g., the Khmer Rouge) may be proposed and will be considered on a case-by-case basis.
Headings in the form Concentration camp […] (e.g., Concentration camp buildings) also will be cancelled and replaced by two headings. Those proposals will appear on a future tentative list.
Other decisions:
Berzincî family
Source citations should support the heading that was chosen, and also any references that are provided. The citation in this proposal did not do so. The proposal may be resubmitted with a citation that shows the forms of name used in the heading and the UFs.
Computer insurance
This proposal was made to add the UFs Cyber insurance and Cyberinsurance to the existing heading. The concepts computer insurance and cyber insurance are not equivalent. Computer insurance was proposed for works about insurance that covers hardware and software, and cyber insurance specifically covers Internet-based risks. A separate proposal for Cyber insurance may be resubmitted.
Cooking, Qatari
Only the Arabic-language title of the work being cataloged was provided to support this proposal. The proposal may be resubmitted with information in English that explains the relationship of the work to the heading being proposed.
Crevola, Battle of, Crevoladossola, Italy, 1487
Crevoladossola, Italy must be established in the name authority file before it can be used as a geographic qualifier. The proposal may be resubmitted.
Devecseri kastély
The citation for the work being cataloged did not include any information about the castle. The only information supporting the proposal was from Wikipedia, which is not considered to be authoritative for subject proposal purposes (see SHM H 202 sec. 1.b). The work probably includes the necessary information, which is the name of the castle and its location, any variant names for the castle, and the purpose of the building (e.g., for defense, as a summer home). The purpose helps to support the choice of the broader term. The Wikipedia citation may be retained if it provides variant forms of name that are not present in the work being cataloged.
In addition, the meeting requests that the heading and UFs be qualified as indicated in H 1334 sec. 3.a. Finally, the geographic location needs to be established in the name authority file before it can be used as a qualifier.
The proposal may be resubmitted.
Excelsior Amusement Park (Excelsior, Minn.)
The citations do not support the choice of geographic qualifier; the location of the park can probably be found in the work being cataloged. The proposal may be resubmitted.
Gosudarstvennyĭ prirodnyĭ zapovednik “Prisurskiĭ” (Russia)
This proposal originally appeared on Tentative List 2005. The Summary of Decisions stated, “The proposal does not include any information in English that supports the choice of BT. In addition, the cataloger should consider the tag and the qualifier on the UF. The proposal may be resubmitted.”
The citations still do not indicate why the BT National parks and reserves was chosen. In addition, the qualifier on the UF was corrected, but the tag was not. The proposal may be resubmitted again.
Itá Ybaté, Battle of, Paraguay, 1868
This battle is already established in LCSH as Lomas Valentinas, Battle of, Paraguay, 1868 with UFs from Itá-Ibaty, Battle of, Paraguay, 1868 and Ita Ivaté, Battle of, Paraguay, 1868. An additional UF was made from Itá Ybaté, Battle of, Paraguay, 1868. The proposal was not necessary.
Karisalov family
This proposal originally appeared on Tentative list 2005. The Summary of Decisions stated, “The citation from the work being cataloged contains no English with which the proposal can be evaluated. The most basic requirements for a family name heading are that the cataloger should provide, in English, the form of the name being chosen for the heading, the location of the family (preferably cited from the work being cataloged), and evidence that a standard reference source was consulted. SHM H 1631 sec. 3 provides further detailed instructions. The proposal may be resubmitted.”
The requested revisions were not made. The proposal may be resubmitted again.
Kollonitsch family
It appears from the citations provided that the name was changed due to emigration from Croatia to Austria. SHM H 1631 sec. 3.c says, “Establish similar-sounding names with different meanings and similar names from different ethnic backgrounds as separate names, connecting them with 500 fields. … If a family name has been changed substantially as the result of emigration, establish headings for both names, [and] connect them with 500 fields.
It appears that two headings should be proposed: one for the Croatian name, and one for the Austrian. The proposal may be resubmitted.
Language and languages
This proposal was made to revise the general see also reference and expand the use of the subdivision –Language. The proposal did not provide a citation for a work being cataloged. Further, the proposed wording of the revised reference is redundant, because newspapers and periodicals are types of publications. The proposal may be resubmitted.
Legal stories, Mexican
The citation for the work being cataloged indicates that the work is a collection of legal stories, but does not support the qualifier “Mexican.” The proposal may be resubmitted.
MuséoParc Alésia (Alise-Sainte-Reine, France)
The UF and BTs are not supported by the citations provided. Evidence of the variant name Alésia MuséoParc and a description of the entity that shows it is an amusement park and an archaeological park should be provided. The references should be revised appropriately if any or all of that information cannot be found. The proposal may be resubmitted.
Nara-Narayana (Hindu mythology) in art
The proposal Nara-Narayana (Hindu mythology) was not approved on Tentative List 2003. In accordance with that decision, the appropriate name heading should be assigned, subdivided by –In art. The proposal was not approved.
Palais de la Roseraie (Bidart, France)
It seems that the building contains a hotel of the same name. According to the background statement in SHM H 1334, a heading should be established in the name authority file and be assigned to works about the corporate body and about the building. The proposal was not approved.
Paris La Défense Arena (Nanterre, France)
The citation for the work being cataloged did not include any information about the building. The only information supporting the proposal was from Wikipedia, which is not considered to be authoritative for subject proposal purposes (see SHM H 202 sec. 1.b). The work probably includes the necessary information, which is the name of the building and its location, and the building’s purpose. The proposal may be resubmitted.
Qriqoryanın iși
This heading was proposed for a specific trial. SHM H 2228 sec. 6 says, “Generally, it is not necessary to establish a subject heading for an individual trial. Instead, the established name headings for the principal parties in a trial, with the subdivision –Trials, litigation, etc., are used as subject headings for a work about the trial. If, however, a trial comes to be known by a popular name other than that of one of the principal parties, a subject heading should be established for the trial.”
The name of the principle defendant in this trial is Eduard Robertoviç Grigoryan, so the heading Grigoryan, Eduard Robertoviç, 1959- –Trials, litigation, etc. should be assigned. The first word in the proposed heading is a variant way of romanizing Grigoryan.
The proposal was not approved.
Religion and agriculture
SHM H 310 sec. 1 states, “Establish new headings in the form [Topic A] and [Topic B] only when the work being cataloged discusses the relationship between the topics from both perspectives and in such broad terms that it could not accurately be described by the use of a main heading and subdivision.” The citation for the work being cataloged indicates that the work is about the impact of Islam on agriculture, but not agriculture’s impact on Islam. The heading Agriculture—Religious aspects—Islam should be assigned. The proposal was not necessary.
Strabismus in art
Only the French-language title of the work being cataloged was provided to support this proposal. The proposal may be resubmitted with information in English that explains the relationship of the work to the heading being proposed.
Tour Elithis (Dijon, France)
The citation for the work being cataloged did not include any information about the building. The only information supporting the proposal was from Wikipedia, which is not considered to be authoritative for subject proposal purposes (see SHM H 202 sec. 1.b). The work probably includes the necessary information, which is the name of the building and its location, and the building’s purpose. The proposal may be resubmitted.
Transnational Armenian Terrorism
The heading Terrorism—Armenia should be assigned to the work being cataloged (the geographic subdivision refers either to the place from which the terrorism originated, or the place where the terrorism occurred). The proposal was not approved.
Young adult fiction, Brazilian
The information provided in the cataloger’s note (952 field) should appear in the citation for the work being cataloged. The proposal may be resubmitted.
GENRE/FORM TERMS
Silhouettes
This proposal was made before the genre/form instruction sheet for artistic and visual works, J 210, was published. According to the instruction sheet, terms may be assigned only to original works of art, not to reproductions. It is unclear from the information provided whether the silhouettes in in the work are reproductions. In addition, the UFs proposed are not supported by the citations provided.
If the work being cataloged is, or contains, original works of art, then the proposal may be resubmitted with a revised citation to the work and additional citations to support the UFs.
Typewriter art
The work being cataloged appears to be a collection of reproductions of typewriter art, and not original art. Only original works of art may be assigned genre/form terms (see genre/form instruction sheet J 210). The proposal was not necessary.
MEDIUM OF PERFORMANCETERMS
Changes were made as indicated on the approved list.
