This should be a revision to the existing heading, not a cancellation of the existing heading and a proposal for a new one. A cataloger’s note should be added about changing the tag from 150 to 100, and PSD will be responsible for changing the tag. Also, the cataloger should reconsider the choice of BTs. LCSH does not use ethnic groups as BTs on dynasties, and the BT for the territory the dynasty ruled should cover the extent of the territory. Is Badajoz Province the same territory, or was it larger? If larger, perhaps Portugal—Kings and rulers would be a better BT. The proposal may be resubmitted.

Only the title of the work being cataloged was provided, and the title does not clearly indicate the relationship of the work to the proposed heading. The meeting was therefore unable to evaluate the proposal, and requests that a brief summary of the book be provided in English. The proposal may be resubmitted.
Bitmap; Bitmap index
The information provided in support of this proposal was only a list of titles with the word “Bitmap” and a citation from Wikipedia. A computer technology source (such as whatis.techtarget.com or Web of Science) that gives full definitions should be cited. A moderate amount of further research to find full definition and description of the proposed terms ordinarily would provide enough information to select an appropriate broader term, identify any variants, and relate the proposed terms to terms already existing in LCSH.
For example, in whatis.techtarget.com, there is a good definition of “bit map,” which led to identification of some variants: bitmap, bit mapping, bitmapping, raster image file, raster file. The definition also provided evidence that the heading should be plural and led to identification of Set-valued maps as an appropriate BT for Bitmaps.
Further searching in Web of Science, or some other specialized source, would be required to define “Bitmap index,” which would indicate that the heading should be plural, and broader terms such as Indexes and Computer architecture should be considered.
Two existing headings in LCSH would be affected by the proposals. Consideration should be given to changing the form of the existing heading Bit-mapped graphics to Bitmapped graphics because of the un-hyphenated form of the new heading. Also, the existing heading JPEG (Image coding standard) might need to have Bitmaps added as a BT or RT.

Brit shalom
The first word of the heading should be “Berit,” not “Brit.” The phrase berit shalom is ambiguous, as it just means peace covenant. Plus, for some Jews berit shalom is just another way of saying circumcision (the concept being proposed is “alternative circumcision,” a naming ceremony without circumcision). The cataloger should do some research outside Wikipedia (the only source cited) to clarify these points. The proposal may be resubmitted.
Catholic fiction, Philippine (English)
The headings Catholic fiction and Catholic fiction, [qualifier] are used when works have Catholic themes. The cataloger provided abundant evidence that a nun has written some fiction, but nothing to indicate that the theme of her work is Catholicism or Catholic values, etc. That needs to be in the record. Plus, if the theme is Christian, but not necessarily Catholic, then Christian fiction, Philippine (English) should be proposed instead. The proposal may be resubmitted.

The meeting was not able to evaluate this proposal because the source citation included only the French title of the work being cataloged. The proposal may be resubmitted.
Dangi language
The heading should be the preferred form of the name of the language in Ethnologue. Several variants were found in Ethnologue, and they were cited in the 670, but they were not given as UFs. In addition, the second 670 on the proposal provides lots of useful information, but no indication of the source of that information. The proposal may be resubmitted.
Hemicytheridae, Fossil; Trachyleberididae, Fossil
There was no information provided in either of these proposals that supports the choice or addition of the BT. The proposals may be resubmitted.
Holocaust deniers
The proposal cited only a single work being cataloged, which is about Holocaust denialism, and the methodology of the denial arguments. It does seem to discuss some deniers, but in order to talk about their beliefs, not about them as persons. The work is therefore not about Holocaust deniers as a class of persons. It would be analogous to assigning Historians to a work about historical methodology that includes case studies of the methodology of particular historians. The work should be cataloged with the heading Holocaust denial. The proposal was not necessary.

The proposal for the new heading in this group is Martínez Negrete family. This proposal did not contain any indication of the nationality and/or ethnicity of the family. There are dozens of similar headings in LCSH that indicate that the BT for this heading should have been Prose literature, Costa Rican, which needs to be proposed. The proposals may be resubmitted.
Research Triangle (N.C. : Region)
This term was searched in GNIS without success, but the North Carolina Gazetteer (which is cited) says that the region is just called the Triangle. The meeting suggested that the cataloger should try a third source other than Wikipedia, perhaps Columbia Gazetteer and/or Britannica, to support the choice of heading. The proposal may be resubmitted.

The only citation in support of this proposal was from Wikipedia.The first footnote in the Wikipedia article leads to the website of the International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA), which is a preferred source because it is authoritative in matters of nuclear energy. The proposal may be resubmitted with a citation from the IAEA.
Symbolic execution
The proposal lacks a BT, which might be more easily provided if a computer tech source had been searched and cited. Also, since the term “symbolic execution” could be mistaken for a term in another discipline (e.g., law or social science), the meeting feels that the heading should have a qualifier. Television broadcasting, Hungarian
Is the Hungarian programming being produced in Hungary and exported to Romania? Or is the Hungarian programming being produced in Romania and broadcast there? It makes a difference.
Spanish television broadcasting was approved on List 8. It has a scope note: Here are entered works on Spanish-language television production and broadcasting in countries where Spanish is not the predominant language. The work cat was about the Spanish-language programs being produced in the U.S. for a U.S. audience.
The pattern that was cited on this proposal, Radio broadcasting, Hungarian, follows the pattern of Motion pictures, Hungarian. The latter has a scope note: Here are entered works on motion pictures produced by Hungarian film companies and shown outside Hungary.
LCSH does not have Television broadcasting with an inverted qualifier, but it would mean the same thing as Motion pictures, [qualifier]. Spanish television broadcasting is the first heading of its type, so, the meeting would like to be sure that we know what is being cataloged before we approve both [language] television broadcasting and Television broadcasting, [adjective for nationality]. The information provided just says “Hungarian broadcasting” and “Hungarian language programs,” which could be interpreted either way. The proposal may be resubmitted.
Ethnic television broadcasting
This proposal was submitted in order to add the scope note: “Here are entered works on ethnic television broadcasting in general. Works on broadcasting by specific ethnic groups are entered under the heading Television broadcasting qualified by the name of the ethnic group, e.g. Television broadcasting, Hungarian.”
The second sentence of the scope note does not make sense, because “Hungarian” in the LCSH sense is a nationality or a language, not an ethnic group. Plus, the heading Television broadcasting, Hungarian may not be correct, depending on what we learn about that (see above). The heading needed might be Hungarian television broadcasting instead, in which the term “Hungarian” would be for the language, not the nationality. The proposal may be resubmitted.
Therezien family
The only information provided in the source citations is in French, and it does not appear to indicate the ethnicity or nationality/location of the family. In addition, LCSH includes thousands of family name headings and none of them include a UF in the form of the one on this proposal. The meeting does not wish to begin adding that form. The proposal provided citations to two editions of the Dictionary of American Family Names, and the meeting appreciated being provided with that information.
