Classification
Changes were made as indicated on the approved list.
Subject Headings
Subdivisions to be added to lists of free-floating subdivisions:
AIDS (Disease)--Law and legislation (Islamic law); AIDS
(Disease)--Patients--Legal status, laws, etc. (Islamic law)
The proposed heading AIDS (Disease)--Law and legislation (Islamic law) was changed to the form AIDS (Disease) (Islamic law) as specified in SHM H 1718, sec. 2.a. The proposal AIDS (Disease)--Patients--Legal status, laws, etc. (Islamic law) was not approved because the heading AIDS (Disease) (Islamic law) seems sufficient for the item being cataloged. The UF AIDS (Disease)--Patients (Islamic law) has been added to that heading.
Climate change mitigation--Law and legislation
Works on law and legislation for climate change mitigation and climatic changes are so closely related that it does not seem desirable to have two separate headings. A UF Climate change mitigation--Law and legislation has been added to the existing heading Climatic changes--Law and legislation. The proposal was not approved.
Higher education accessibility
Works on the concept of financial accessibility to higher education have been assigned headings such as Education, Higher--Finance and Government aid to higher education, which seems sufficient. The proposal was not approved.
Jervis Bay Region
According to SHM H 760, sec. 1.a, regions based on geographic features may be created on a free-floating basis by adding the word Region to the existing heading for the feature. The proposal was not necessary.
Jet fighters
This proposal appeared on Weekly List 1 of 2010, and it was sent back for resubmission. The Summary of Decisions for that week stated, The form of this heading should be Jet fighter planes. The BT should be Fighter planes, not Fighters. Additionally, and importantly, there are approximately 80 NTs that need to be edited, including all headings that use Jet fighter plane or Jet fighter planes as a qualifier. Also during the editing process, the qualifiers should be made singular. The proposal may be resubmitted along with proposals for appropriate changes to the NTs.
Towy Valley (Wales)
There was no justification provided in the authority record for changing the form of heading from Tywi Valley (Wales) to Towy Valley (Wales). GeoNet specifies that there is a Tywi River in Carmarthenshire, Wales, and the Columbia Gazetteer of the World shows that there is a Towy River in Powys, Wales, that flows past Llandovery, Llandeilo, Carmarthen, and Llansteffan to Carmarthen Bay. Research should be done to determine whether Towy Valley is another name for the Tywi Valley, or if they are in fact different valleys. The proposal may be resubmitted as appropriate: if the valleys are different, separate proposals for both the Towy River and valley may be resubmitted; if it is the same valley with different names, the proposal to change the authority record for the Tywi Valley may be resubmitted, with citations supporting the change.
