Classification

HD57.7; [HM1261-1263]

Since leadership and followership are opposite, or complementary, topics, it is not considered appropriate to state that one “includes” the other. A separate number for “followership” will be created at HD57.8 and HM1264. The proposals to add “including followership” to the two “leadership” captions were not approved.

Subject Headings

Subdivisions to be added to lists of free-floating subdivisions:

H 1147, Animals

$x Collection and preservation $x Law and legislation

Other decisions:

Economic assistance, Zambian

A heading in this form should be for works about aid from Zambia to other countries. However, the work being cataloged is about international aid to Zambia. The correct heading to use in this case is Economic assistance--Zambia for which a proposal is not necessary. The proposal was not approved.

Murray River Watershed (N.S.W.-S. Aust.); Darling River Watershed (Qld. and N.S.W.)

The Subject Headings Manual H 800, sec. 9, states that watershed headings based on the names of two rivers in combination with each other should not be established. Instead, separate watershed headings are established for each river. Therefore, UFs should not be made on the separate watershed headings for the combined forms of two separate watershed names. The proposals were not approved.

Gay consumers; Lesbian consumers

The BT Consumers should be retained in accordance with the decision that follows regarding the hierarchies for Gay [class of persons], Lesbian [class of persons], Bisexual [class of persons], or Transgender [class of persons]. The proposals were not approved.

Announcement:

The decision has been made not to make the BT Sexual minority [class of persons] when establishing headings of the type Gay [class of persons], Lesbian [class of persons], Bisexual [class of persons], or Transgender [class of persons]. Instead, the BT should be made from the general class of persons heading, for example.

Gay college students BT College students [not BT Sexual minority college students]

The BTs on existing headings of this type will be revised offlist to conform to this decision.
