Bird predation
The proposed heading is ambiguous, as it is not clear whether it refer to birds as predators or as prey. The existing heading Birds of prey--Control (May Subd Geog) is adequate for the item being cataloged. The proposal was not approved.
Dinslaken (Germany : Landkreis)
Since this is a jurisdiction, it should be established as a name heading. The proposal was not approved.
Eastern Sudanic languages
This proposed heading represents a group of languages. Many of the individual languages in the group have already been established as subject headings. This proposal may be resubmitted together with proposals to revise the reference structure on the headings for the individual languages in order to add this new heading as a broader term.
Iron implements
Ironwork is treated as a decorative arts heading in LCSH. Since iron implements are not decorative arts objects, it is inappropriate as a broader term on that heading. The proposal was not approved.
Lower Mississippi River Valley
The Subject Cataloging Manual: Subject Headings, H 800, sec. specifies that if a river has not yet been established at the time when a valley heading is proposed, the heading for the river should also be proposed. This proposal may be resubmitted together with a proposal to establish a heading for the river.
Military planning
This heading represents a topic and should not have a reference from a form term. The heading already has the UF from the topical equivalent, War planning. The proposal to add the UF War plans was not approved.
Moravia (Czech Republic)--History--1526-1618
This heading may be resubmitted with an explanation justifying the choice of the opening and closing dates in the span. This justification should be provided in 670 fields.
Museum Reitburg--Buildings--Additions
The free-floating subdivision --Buildings is sufficiently specific under individual corporate bodies. The proposal was not approved. (See the Summary of Decisions for weekly list 08/43).
Older people--Abuse of
Since --Abuse of is normally free-floating under classes of persons, there is no need to add a UF of this type to the authority record. The proposal was not approved.
Philippi, Battle of, 42 B.C.
This battle was part of the Wars of the Second Triumvirate. A heading for those wars should be established in order to make the proper BT for this heading. The proposal may be resubmitted.
Physical education for high school students
This topic is covered by the existing heading Physical education and training--Study and teaching (Secondary). The proposal was not approved.
Potomac River, South Branch (W. Va.)
According to reference sources, the headwaters of the South Branch Potomac River are in Virginia and the body of the river in West Virginia. An appropriate qualifier and the appropriate BTs should be provided. In addition, GNS provides several variant forms for the name of the river. UFs should be provided, as appropriate. The proposal may be resubmitted.
Problem drinking
A scope note is needed to distinguish this heading from the existing heading Alcoholism. The existing UF Drinking problem, which is a reference to Drinking of alcoholic beverages and to Alcoholism needs to be revised. The BT on the existing heading Binge drinking needs to be re-evaluated. There are numerous bibliographic records that will need to be updated. A list of these records, or printouts of the individual records, should be submitted with the proposal when it is resubmitted.
Singapore Grand Prix Race
In accordance with the Subject Cataloging Manual: Subject Headings, H 1592, sec. 2, this heading should be established as a name heading. The proposal was not approved.
Tomb of the Unknown Soldier (Bucharest, Romania)
This heading should be established in the appropriate Romanian language form. Additional UFs should be provided to bring significant terms into the filing position. The proposal may be resubmitted.
