Back to Summary of Decisions

August 20, 2008

Present from CPSO: E. Dechman, R. Goudreau, D. Thompson, J. Young

Classification

BP173.73

This proposal was not approved at this time. (See the decision on Islamism below.)

KF337.5.I5

The meeting does not wish to distinguish between legal services for different groups of immigrants, based solely on their immigration status. Instead of approving a new number for legal immigrants, the existing caption at KF337.5.I45 will be changed to Immigrants, with a note reading "Including illegal aliens." The proposal was not approved.

Subject Headings

Christmas films; Nonfiction television programs; Radio comedies; [and similar headings]

In order to facilitate hierarchical search and discovery of genre/form headings, CPSO is adding an appropriate broader term reference - either Motion pictures, Television programs, Radio programs, or Video recordings - to those genre/form headings that do not currently have a broader term. Several proposals were approved on this list as examples and broader terms will be added to the other affected headings offlist.

Islamism

Because of the ambiguity of the term Islamism, and because it is sometimes considered synonymous to Islamic fundamentalism, it is not considered advisable to approve a separate heading for Islamism at this time. A UF reference from Islamism will be added to Islamic fundamentalism instead. The proposal was not approved.

Iron ores--Transportation

Since the subdivision --Transportation is free-floating under objects and merchandise, this proposal is not necessary.

Thrillers (Motion pictures); Thrillers (Television programs)

Proposals to alter the wording of scope notes appearing on genre/form headings and on corresponding topical headings were approved on this list. Scope notes on the other moving image and radio program headings will be revised offlist.
