Classification

Changes were made as indicated on the approved list.

Subject Headings

Subdivisions to be added to lists of free-floating subdivisions:

H 1156, Literatures

$x Turkic authors

Other decisions:

Full-day school

The existing heading School day has been used in the past for this topic because full-day school is the normal school day, unlike kindergarten, where half-days are the norm. It does not seem necessary or desirable to create a specific heading for full-day school. Instead, the meeting has added the UF All-day school and the UF Full-day school to the heading School day. This is consistent with practice in the ERIC thesaurus, as reflected in the UF references under its heading School Schedules. The proposal was not approved.

Muslims--Public opinion, American

There are specific instructions for assigning two headings in order to bring out public opinion on a specific topic in a specific place in the Subject Cataloging Manual: Subject Headings, H 1955, sec. 1. The meeting did not wish to change this long-standing practice in favor of a new practice of assigning a single pre-coordinated heading. The proposal was not approved.
