Classification

N8217.A84

The portrayal of individual places in art is classed in N8214.5. The proposal to add a Cutter number for Athos, Greece, to the list of special subjects in art is not approved.

PM3646; PM3871; and other cancellations

A review of the Indian languages in subclass PM shows that some languages of Latin America are listed in the wrong geographical area. Where there are no materials classed in the erroneous numbers, these numbers are being cancelled without replacement. Similar proposals will appear on other weekly lists.

Subject Headings

Dom (South Asian people)

It is unclear how or whether this heading is related to the existing heading Dombaru (Indic people). Further research is needed to resolve this issue. Also, the 053 field supplied for Pakistan does not represent a published classification number. Only numbers that are published in the classification schedules should be included in the 053 field of subject authority records. The proposal may be resubmitted.

Lincoln Statue (Cincinnati, Ohio : Fourth Street): Lincoln Statue (Cincinnati, Ohio : Reading Road)

These statues should be treated as works of art and therefore established as name headings. The proposals were not approved.

Nineteen thirty-four, A.D.

Headings for individual years should only be used for very general works that cover the specific year and are not limited to a particular topic. The proposed heading is not appropriate for the work being cataloged. The proposal was not approved.

Picture dictionaries, Pawari; Pawari dialect

Revisions to the heading Pawari dialect show a confusion regarding the language to which the dialect is related. Further research is needed to determine whether there are two dialects with this name and whether the dialect of the work in hand is part of Bundeli or Bhili. The proposals may be resubmitted.

Shinto--Charities

This proposal represents a free-floating combination authorized by the list of pattern subdivisions under religions (Subject Cataloging Manual: Subject Headings, H 1185) The proposal is not necessary.

Speeches, addresses, etc., East Indian

The work being cataloged appears to be a compilation of speeches in English from India. This concept would be covered by the existing heading Speeches, addresses, etc., Indic (English). The proposal was not approved.

Tropicalismo (Literary movement)

The sources cited in support of the proposal indicate that this movement encompassed several art forms such as literature, music, and theater. There is an existing heading Tropicália (Music) which may represent the musical aspect of this movement. The existing heading may need revision to broaden its scope. The proposal may be resubmitted.

Undelivered letters

It seems impractical to make a distinction regarding the reasons the mail, including letters, failed to reach its intended destination. A single heading can be used for such mail, whether undeliverable or unclaimed from the post office. The existing heading Postal service-Unclaimed mail may need revision to reflect the broader scope. The proposal may be resubmitted.
