Subject Headings
Guatama Buddha--Biography; Mahāvīra--Biography
Historically, the subdivision --Biography has been established under the names of only four individuals: Shakespeare, William, 1564-1616; Muhammad, Prophet, d. 632; Jesus Christ; and Mary, Blessed Virgin, Saint. These four individuals should be regarded as exceptions to the general rule prohibiting the usage of --Biography under individual personal names. No additional exceptions to the rule will be made. These two proposals were therefore not approved. The Subject Cataloging Manual: Subject Headings, H 1330, sec. 1.a., will be revised to clarify this point.
Water chemistry
The proposed UF references from River chemistry, Rivers--Chemistry, and Stream chemistry were not approved because these are upward references from more specific terms to a broader heading. A new heading for the topic of river or stream chemistry should be proposed if needed.
