Changes were made as indicated on the approved list.

Subject Headings

Subdivisions to be added to lists of free-floating subdivisions:

H 1120, Families

$x Clothing

Other decisions:

Graphic novels, Japanese

The heading Graphic novels has been treated as more akin to the heading Comic books, strips, etc. than to headings for literary genres, and has therefore been divided geographically rather than qualified adjectivally. The proposal to change this treatment was not approved. The heading Graphic novels--Japan should be used instead.

World War, 1914-1918--Montenegro; World War, 1914-1918--Serbia; World War, 1914-1918--Serbia and Montenegro CANCEL; etc.

These proposals represent part of the subject authority work needed to reflect the recent breakup of Serbia and Montenegro into the separate countries of Montenegro and Serbia. The heading Serbia and Montenegro should be used to represent that country from the time its name changed from Yugoslavia in 2003 until 2006 when it split into two independent countries. The headings Montenegro and Serbia should be used to represent the current countries in all time periods, even when they were republics of Yugoslavia. As geographic subdivisions, the headings are now assigned directly following headings authorized for geographic subdivision. Localities within either of the two countries are assigned indirectly, for example, Historic buildings--Montenegro--Podgorica; Art--Serbia--Belgrade. Additional authority work will appear on future weekly lists. Instruction sheet H 1055 on Yugoslavia has been rewritten to reflect this change. The revised version will appear in the next update to the Subject Cataloging Manual: Subject Headings.
