Classification

Changes were made as indicated on the approved list.

Subject Headings

Subdivisions to be added to lists of free-floating subdivisions:

H 1100, Classes pers

$x Family relationships ADD: (May Subd Geog)

Other decisions:

Captivity narratives, American; Captivity narratives, Canadian

Captivity narratives are a kind of autobiographical literature. Inverted headings with national qualifiers are normally used only for literature that is treated as belles-lettres, that is literature of the imagination. Headings for biographical and autobiographical materials do not include such qualifiers. The heading Captivity narratives is authorized for geographic subdivision, so that the subdivisions --United States and --Canada may be used for the works being cataloged. The proposals were not approved.

Cosmetologists

This proposed revision of the existing heading Beauty operators is incomplete, since there are several related headings that would require revision also. Additionally, the relationship between the proposed heading and the reference Hairdressers should be investigated to determine whether two separate headings are needed. The proposal may be resubmitted.

Liberal Arts Quad (Seattle, Wash.); Rainier Vista (Seattle, Wash. : Park)

These headings already have broader-term references from the type of feature, as required by LC policy. It was considered undesirable and unnecessary to make additional references linking the headings to College campuses. The proposals were not approved.
