Group Tours
The Library of Congress offers reserved docent-led tours of the historic Thomas Jefferson Building to groups with 12 to 60 participants. [Because of high demand, the maximum number the Library can accommodate from a single institution is 60 participants during the months of March, April, May, and June.] Tour requests are accepted no more than 4 months prior to the tour date, but must be submitted at least 4 weeks prior to the tour date. All tours subject to docent availability.
An alternative to a docent-led tour is a self-guided tour of the Library of Congress Experience and its exhibitions using the Passport to Knowledge and the various interactive computer kiosks located throughout the Jefferson Building and exhibitions. Brochures that will help groups self guide are available at the 4 Information Desks in the Jefferson Building.
Please review the Library’s visitor guidelines before coming to the Library.
The Library maintains a complex daily tour schedule which means that all tours must begin on time. Groups must arrive 15 minutes prior to their scheduled tour times in order to clear through entrance security. Groups arriving late may find their docents are no longer available.
