Jefferson Building Closed to Visitors March 2

Reading Rooms Remain Open to Researchers

The Great Hall, all exhibits (including the Library of Congress Experience and "With Malice Towards None: The Abraham Lincoln Bicentennial Exhibit") and Library Shop within the Thomas Jefferson Building of the Library of Congress will be closed to the public all day Monday, March 2, for a special event. Visitors will not be allowed in the Jefferson Building. However all reading rooms will be open for researchers.

Researchers may enter the Jefferson Building after 8:30 a.m. via the Southeast door, or the Adams and Madison buildings tunnels, which lead to the East side of Jefferson building. These will be the ONLY entry points to the Jefferson building available to researchers. Additionally, researchers must use the Second Street cloakroom ONLY. Access will be available to persons with disabilities via the Southeast entrance or via the tunnels from Adams or Madison, or via the designated parking provided on the Second Street lot. The tunnel to the Capitol Visitor Center will be closed to the public and researchers.

Researchers who enter the Jefferson Building via the Madison Building and Adams Building tunnels, will be directed by signs to the Asian, African and Middle Eastern, and European Reading Rooms via the Second Street elevators. Additionally, researchers will be directed through the Hispanic Reading Room to the European Reading Room; and will exit the same way. Researchers will be directed to enter and exit through Room 140 to the Asian Reading Room. Researchers to the African and Middle Eastern Reading Room will enter and exit through LJ 230 (Northeast Curtain) on the Second St. side; and will exit the same way. Researchers may not exit through the Northwest Pavilion and Curtain, nor via the normal entrance on First Street side.

All building exits will be available for use in the event of an emergency.

Normal access to the Great Hall and all other sections of the Jefferson building will resume on Tuesday, March 3.

We regret any inconvenience that this may cause our visitors and researchers.
