Small Nations Poetry Reading Oct. 19
Librarian of Congress James H. Billington will host a Small Nations Poetry Reading from 6:30 to 9 p.m. on Thursday, Oct. 19, in the Montpelier Room on the sixth floor of the James Madison Building, 101 Independence Ave. S.E., Washington, D.C.
The event is free and open to the public, but seating is limited and reservations are required. To reserve a seat, please call the Embassy of Austria at 202-895-6776.
Ambassadors from eight nations will read: Eva Nowotny (Austria); Naser M.Y. Al Belooshi (Kingdom of Bahrain); Euripides L. Evriviades (Cyprus); Helgi Agustsson (Iceland); Claudia Fritsche (Liechtenstein); Jospeh Weyland (Luxembourg); John Lowell (Malta); and Samuel Zbogar (Slovenia). Each ambassador will show a short video highlighting their respective countries, followed by reading a poem written by a poet from each country.
The Library’s European Division and Poetry Office are co-sponsoring the event, in conjunction with the eight embassies. A reception, courtesy of the embassies, will follow the program.
