May 15, 2002 Thomas Jefferson Building Remains Open to Tourists on Saturday, May 25

Press Contact: Helen Dalrymple (202) 707-1940

The Thomas Jefferson Building of the Library of Congress will be open its normal hours to tourists (10 a.m. to 5:30 p.m.) on Saturday, May 25, although the reading rooms in all three Library buildings on Capitol Hill will be closed due to necessary electrical repairs in the Madison Building. Because the repairs require the shutdown of the Library's computer system, the reading rooms will not be able to function.

The Library's popular Web sites, www.loc.gov, thomas.loc.gov, memory.loc.gov, and www.americaslibrary.gov will shut down beginning at 6 p.m. Friday, May 24, and will resume operation at approximately 9:30 p.m. on Monday, May 27.

All Library of Congress buildings will be closed on Sunday, May 26, and Memorial Day, Monday, May 27. The Library will reopen to the public at its usual hours on Tuesday, May 28.
