Sen. Ted Stevens (R-Alaska), Chairman of the Senate Appropriations Committee and Vice Chairman of the Joint Committee on the Library for the 106th Congress, will join an outstanding list of speakers at the 18th Annual FLICC Forum on Federal Information Policies.

The Federal Library and Information Center Committee (FLICC) of the Library of Congress will host the all-day forum on March 27 at the James Madison Memorial Building of the Library of Congress, 101 Independence Ave. S.E.

As the Forum's keynote speaker, Sen. Stevens will open the discussion of how to meet the challenge of preserving and providing access, in perpetuity, to authoritative federal information. Following his legislative perspective, representatives from key government agencies -- Lewis Bellardo, Deputy Archivist of the United States, National Archives and Records Administration; Laura Campbell, Associate Librarian for Strategic Initiatives, Library of Congress; and Francis Buckley, Superintendent of Documents, Government Printing Office -- will discuss federal information policies and practices in the digital era.

Afternoon sessions will examine digital archiving projects and practices in a variety of settings. For the private sector, Steven Emmert, Director, Government and Industry Affairs, Lexis-Nexis, will discuss preservation of proprietary value-added databases of federal information, and Gail Hodge, Senior Information Specialist, Information International Associates Inc., will look at efforts in other nations. The final afternoon session will feature a panel discussion of digital archiving policies and programs at selected federal agencies, with Pam André, director of the National Agricultural Library; Margaret Byrnes, head of the Preservation and Collection Management Section at the National Library of Medicine; and Milton Halem, Goddard Assistant Director for Information Sciences for the National Aeronautics and Space Administration.

To register for the FLICC Forum, contact Special Events Coordinator Anna Bohlin, at (202) 707-4822.
