Prince Philip To Visit Bible Exhibition
His Royal Highness the Duke of Edinburgh, Prince Philip of Great Britain will visit the Library of Congress Thomas Jefferson Building at 4 p.m. Friday, June 6, to view an exhibition entitled "Let There Be Light: William Tyndale and the Making of the English Bible."
Included in the exhibition is the Tyndale Bible (1526), on loan from the British Library. The Bible is the first printed English translation of the New Testament. Tyndale's translation, for which he was martyred, later became the basis for the King James Authorized Version in 1611.
During his hour-long visit, Prince Philip will meet Librarian of Congress James H. Billington, tour the Library's newly restored Great Hall and greet staff members of the Library of Congress.
The visit is open to coverage by credentialed media. There will be two photo opportunities: one outside upon arrival at the Thomas Jefferson Building at 10 First St. S.E. and the other within the exhibition.
Note to editors: the previously announced press preview of the exhibition, scheduled for 2 p.m. Monday, June 2, has been canceled.
