Library of Congress Joins Smithsonian Institution in Announcing Ella Fitzgerald Acquisition

The Library of Congress joins the Smithsonian Institution in a press conference to celebrate Ella Fitzgerald's 80th birthday and announce the donation of the Fitzgerald archives and artifacts from her estate to the two institutions.

WHEN: Friday, April 25, at 10 a.m.

WHERE: Hall of Musical Instruments, National Museum of American History, Smithsonian Institution

PARTICIPANTS: Librarian of Congress James H. Billington; Secretary of the Smithsonian, Michael Heyman; Ray Brown Jr., Ella Fitzgerald's son; and Richard D. Rosman, trustee of the 1989 Fitzgerald Trust

The Library and the Smithsonian will cooperate in the future by making reciprocal copies of Fitzgerald materials from their respective collections. Ms. Fitzgerald was born April 25, 1917, and died last year.
