Library of Congress Publishes New Edition of Class Schedule R: Medicine

Library of Congress Classification R: Medicine, 1995 Edition has just been published by the Library of Congress's Cataloging Distribution Service. It is the first new edition of this schedule in nine years, replacing the 1986 fifth edition. Class Schedule R includes classification data created through early 1995 and has new class numbers and captions for such topics as DNA fingerprints, exercise addiction and Lyme disease.

LC Classification Schedule R: Medicine, 1995 Edition is the second schedule produced using the new automated Library of Congress system. The Library is now converting all class schedules into the USMARC format, which will result in more frequent updating and revisions and quicker publication of new editions.

The new publication is smaller and less bulky than before. It is now a handy 7-1/4 by 10-1/4 inches and is printed on both sides of the page. Thumb tabs throughout the tables and indexes make content location easier. A new cover design and colors, more readable typeface and the new size help users quickly differentiate the new LC schedules from the old.
