Media Advisory: Cartoon Exhibit Preview and Symposium
On Friday, May 5 at 11 a.m. in the foyer of the Madison Building, 101 Independence Ave., SE, the Library of Congress will offer a press preview of its exhibition "Featuring the Funnies: 100 Years of the Comic Strip." At the preview, cartoonists will be available to discuss their work as they draw on a special wall that will be set up as part of the exhibition.
The exhibition, which opens to the public the same day, will present 90 original drawings and published comic strips as part of a national commemoration of the 100th anniversary of the May 5 publication of the first color "Hogan's Alley" newspaper comic created for the New York World that featured the legendary "Yellow Kid."
On Saturday, May 6 from 1 p.m. to 4:30 p.m., cartoonists and editors will gather in the Mumford Room on the sixth floor of the Madison Building to discuss what they do, where they get their ideas, and what the future may brings. The event is by invitation only, but open to coverage by the news media.
