Speaker Biography: Washington Post science and politics writer Joel Achenbach was the newspaper's first online columnist with "Rough Draft" in 1999. His latest and seventh book is "A Hole at the Bottom of the Sea: The Race to Kill the BP Oil Gusher" (Simon & Schuster). Achenbach's other books include "The Grand Idea: George Washington's Potomac and the Race to the West" and "Captured by Aliens: The Search for Life and Truth in a Very Large Universe." He is also a regular contributor to National Geographic, writing stories on such topics as dinosaurs, particle physics, earthquakes and extraterrestrial life.
