Author Andrew Oliver speaks on his investigation of "The Arabic Souvenir of Valentine Mott."
Speaker Biography: Andrew Oliver has worked in the Library of Congress on different books and research for a number of years. After completing his studies at Harvard University, the Institute of Fine Arts at New York University and the Warburg Institute in London, he joined the U.S. Army and served actively in 1960. He then joined the Metropolitan Museum of Art in the Greek and Roman Department first as an assistant curator and then as associate curator from 1960-1970. Oliver was part of the Brooklyn Museum from 1973-1974 and served as director of the Textile Museum from 1975-1981. He served as a consultant with Water's Art Gallery and from 1982-1994 was director of museum programs at the National Endowment for the Arts. He is now at the Smithsonian Institution working with the National Gallery of Art. He taught at Georgetown University in the liberal studies program in 2003 and 2005 and is a member of numerous associations including the New York Society Library, the Visiting Committee for Harvard University Library and a member of the Board of Governor's of John Carter Brown Library in Providence. Oliver is the author of several articles, books and monographs.
