TITLE: Pre-Qin Gold and Its Application in Ancient China

Based on archaeological findings, Junchang Yang introduces the use of gold and the development of the making of gold artifacts during the pre-Qin period, including the type and the scope of gold being utilized at different dynasties of pre-Qin period. The composition of gold material and manufacturing methods are also discussed.
Speaker Biography: Junchang Yang is the director of the Department of Conservation and Research at the Shaanxi Provincial Institute of Archaeology. He holds a master's degree from the Department of History and Museums of Fudan University in Shanghai and a doctorate in history of science and technology from the Institute of Historical Technology and Materials from the University of Science and Technology in Beijing. Dr. Yang specializes in conservation and research of an earth's relics and related technology. He has published over 40 research papers, domestically and internationally. He's an adjunct professor of several major universities and a council member of the Chinese Conservation Society of Cultural Heritage and Conservation and Restoration Committee of the China Cultural Heritage. Dr. Yang started his Kluge Fellowship at the Library of Congress in March 2009. His main research is "Gold, Silver, and Mercury in Ancient China: Archeological, Art Historical and Metallurgical Studies."
