During the first half of the 20th century--the "Golden Age" of rail travel--first, steam engines and, later, gleaming stainless-steel streamliners zipped across the US continent at over 100 miles per hour. Taking the train was not only fast, but it was traveling in style. Passenger trains offered elegant dining services and other amenities, such as dome cars that allowed unparalleled views of the surrounding landscape, parlor and club cars, and sleeping quarters. Essential to the rail industry was the advertising that brought travelers on board. Accomplished artists were hired to create enticing and beautiful scenes. The thirty railroad posters collected in this book of postcards glorify both speeding locomotives and a variety of grand destinations, including US national parks and major cities. All are from the Library of Congress's Poster Collection, which includes more than 100,000 posters from around the world. Description: 30 images. Postcards are bound together in a handy collection. Printed on heavy card stock. Postcards are oversized and may require additional postage. 4 3/4 x 6 1/2 inches. Price: $10.95 Availability: Ships in 2-3 business days Product #: 21405023 |
