(1) An up-to-date
résumé providing information as to education, degrees received, fellowships
and honors, publications, positions held, and other
pertinent information.
(2) A one-page abstract (no more than 250 words) that specifies how the
proposed project is related
to the field of caricature and cartoon and
identifies specifically which of the Library's
collections the applicant intends to
utilize in research
during the required two-week period of residency at the Library of Congress.
(3) A description of the proposed project (no longer than five pages)
including (a) accomplishments
to date, (b) a timetable for completion, (c)
an itemized budget (including
necessary travel and research expenses),
(d) plans for use
of the Library of Congress collections, and (e) other pertinent information,
including plans for publication. (Font no smaller than 11, single spacing unacceptable,
1 1/2 spacing permissible)
(4) Visual materials that support the project
are required in the proposal or as separate photocopies
(no more than 10 pages).
(5) Official transcript(s) for graduate work
to date.
Applications lacking any of these required components will
automatically be eliminated from
review.

Letters of recommendation must be sent directly to the Swann Foundation.
Please give your recommenders copies of your proposal and ask them to comment on your strengths and weaknesses, the value of the proposed project, and your abilities to carry out the project as described.
All materials must be received by February
15, 2013 in order
to be considered for the Fellowship.
We recommend that you send your application electronically as a PDF or Word document, or if by hard copy with a delivery system such
as FedEx, UPS, or a
comparable service and not the U.S. Postal Service, since
the Library is not receiving timely
deliveries of mail.
