Reading Room Access, Hours, and Location

SCOPE:
The Performing Arts Reading Room is the access point for collections in the custody of the Music Division.  These include books on music, music scores (printed and manuscript), music periodicals, and special collections in music, theater, and dance. Sound and video materials are in the custody of the Motion Picture, Broadcasting and Recorded Sound Division and may be requested in the Recorded Sound Reference Center and the Motion Picture and Television Reading Room.
LOCATION:
Madison Building, Room LM 113 on the first floor (entrance on Independence Avenue, between First and Second Streets, S.E., Washington, D.C.). Map.
HOURS:
Open Monday - Saturday 8:30 a.m. - 5:00 p.m. (Closed Federal holidays.) Requests are taken only until 4:15 p.m.

Note: Recorded Sound Reference Center (Motion Picture, Broadcasting and Recorded Sound)
is not open on Saturday.

REQUIRED:
Library of Congress Reader Identification card (may be obtained in the Room LM 140, on the
first floor of the Madison Building).
ACCESS:
Certain rules and regulations apply to the general use of the collections of the Performing Arts Reading Room. Additional restrictions may apply to specific materials. Researchers wishing to work with special collections are advised to inquire in advance about availability of material since many special collections are stored off-site. Some rare items may not be available on Saturdays.
METRO:
Capitol South Station (Blue and Orange Lines). Strongly encouraged.
PARKING: Very Limited. Some two-hour zone and metered parking on streets. Public parking lots (closest is located at Union Station).
